Studio Update: Week of 12/1- 12/7
This week we fired the wood kiln! On Sunday I glazed my work for the kiln and then on Monday we loaded and bricked up the kiln. Tuesday we lit her up. It was a super fun firing and I feel like we all got to share a lot of bonding moments. I taught Emma how to make the slip for the door and we slipped the door before starting the firing at 8am. We all showed up in overalls and I thought that was a good omen for the impending firing. After my first shift I went back inside and threw more chalices for the dinner party. I wish the dinner party wasn't so immediate after the wood kiln because it was hard to be in crunch mode for that while also putting in the exhausting manual labor for the wood kiln. It was so so so cold out too, which was both fun and brutal. I worked the 8pm to 4am shift overnight before heading back the next day. The burn out piles up more every week and I feel like I could cry over just about anything at this point.
